National Intelligence Community, Medal of Achievement service ribbon (obsolete)

The National Intelligence Medal of Achievement was awarded for especially meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to the United States by a member of the Intelligence Community. This award recognizes performance of an especially difficult duty in a clearly exceptional manner. The service being recognized must relate directly to the Intelligence Community's mission to provide the intelligence required for national security policy determinations.
The National Intelligence Medal of Achievement was replaced with the equivalent Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Exceptional Achievement Medal during the restructuring of the National Intelligence Community Awards (NICA) Program, with the revision of Intelligence Community Directive 655 (National Intelligence Awards Program) in 2012. The new medal was totally redesigned with a new ribbon and medallion, see photo # 2 (information only, not part of this sale).
The Intelligence Community (IC) consists of 16 members and includes the CIA, the intelligence services of the five Armed Forces, the DoD intelligence agencies (DIA, NGA, NRO, and NSA) and the intelligence agencies of the Departments of Energy, Homeland Security, Justice (FBI and DEA), State, and Treasury.
